Why? To raise funds and re-stock clothing supplies for Rose Brooks Center, our local domestic violence shelter
Friday, April 13, marks the kick-off of our 13th annual “Flipping Favorites” clothing drive for Rose Brooks Center, the largest domestic violence program in Kansas City providing emergency shelter to women and children escaping life threatening abuse. Once they are safe, these families receive the tools and resources they need to begin rebuilding their life – a life built on respect, love and compassion. Rose Brooks provides over 57,000 safe nights annually, and now also provides safe shelter for a limited number of pets of the women and children needing to escape violence.
Donors are invited to bring new or gently worn women’s clothing, clean and on hangers. As the clothing is helping women start lives anew, only clothing that will enhance these new beginnings is acceptable. The donated clothing will help raise funds for the shelter and stock “Rosie’s Closet” at the shelter where women can choose a new wardrobe. Over the past years we have gathered thousands of items and have raised over $33,000 through our fun-packed evenings of $10-per-hanger clothes-swapping and socializing.
After a month of gathering donations, World’s Window invites the community to attend its “Flipping Favorites Sock Hop Party” shopping event on Thursday, May 10th from 5 to 8 p.m. to support Rose Brooks Center. It will be an evening of fun and fashion with $10 clothing bargains, 20 percent discounts throughout World’s Window, festive food, and libations.
All items not sold the night of the party are then donated to Rose Brooks Center – over 7,000 items over the years. The staff at Rose Brooks tells us that the donations coming from our customers are the best quality and style they receive each year, and they add that plus-sized clothing is particularly needed as they receive fewer donations in those sizes.
The public can participate in “Flipping Favorites” in the following ways:
1) Bring one or more excellent quality new or gently worn item(s) to World’s Window between Friday, April 13 and Monday, May 7, and receive a “Golden Ticket” for free entry to the VIP 5:00 - 6:00 first hour of the shopping event on Thursday, May 10.
2) No clothes to donate so no Golden Ticket? Admission is $10 to the VIP 5-6:00 early shopping hour of the Flipping Favorites event on May 10 and all proceeds benefit Rose Brooks Center.
3) At the Flipping Favorites Disco Party at World’s Window on Thursday, May 10, shop hundreds of new and very gently used items for only $10 each. VIP ticketed shopping from 5 to 6; shopping open and free to the public from 6 - 8. 100% of proceeds benefit Rose Brooks Center.
4) Shop regular merchandise at World’s Window on Thursday, May 10 throughout the evening at a 20% discount. 10% of those sales will also be donated to Rose Brooks Center.
